Do you need to visit a chiropractor?
The meaning of the word Chiropractic in Greek is ‘cheri’ (hand) and praktiki (practice) – done by hand. This is a very accurate description of chiropractic care. Chiropractors use their hands to examine and treat the health conditions related to the spine (and other bones) muscles, joints, and the impact that can have on the nervous system (neuromusculoskeletal problems).
As a chiropractor, I am a primary care practitioner. This means patients can come and see me without a referral from a GP. We are trained to diagnose, treat and rehabilitate conditions that fit into our scope, or refer you to the right specialist if they do not.
7 of the most common reasons people visit a chiropractor include:
- Back Pain
- Neck pain
- Headaches
- Work-related injuries
- Whiplash or other accidents and injuries
- Arthritis
- Preventative spinal care
As a Chiropractor, it is my job to help your body heal through chiropractic care and to teach you how to prevent the problems from returning in the future through lifestyle advice.
What does chiropractic treatment look like?
Chiropractic care is focused on restoring normal motion to the spine and joints, thus improving neurological feedback to the brain. This is usually done with a chiropractic adjustment, a specific and controlled force through the joint. Low-force options are available, including the use of the activator, blocks, or the drop-piece table. Additional to the adjustment, treatment may include soft tissue work (massage) to the involved musculature. But not all the treatment is done in the clinic. You will be responsible for the exercises and lifestyle amendments that will help you achieve the best results. But I as your chiropractor will guide and coach you with any suggested changes.
